Presents insulin resistance as its reciprocal so that higher values indicate better insulin sensitivity, providing an intuitive complement to HOMA-IR.
A score > 0.4 indicates good insulin sensitivity; a score between 0.2 and 0.4 suggests reduced sensitivity; and a score of 0.2 or less indicates significant insulin resistance.
Expressing insulin resistance as sensitivity (1/HOMA-IR) makes results more intuitive for patients and clinicians tracking improvement, since values rise as metabolic health improves.
A 48-year-old woman has a HOMA-IR of 4.0.

Insulin sensitivity measures how effectively the body's cells respond to insulin. A higher value means cells are more responsive, requiring less insulin to manage blood glucose.
