The AIP (log10 TG/HDL) is a validated marker of the triglyceride–HDL axis that correlates with LDL particle size, providing a simple, accessible proxy for atherogenic dyslipidemia.
A 50-year-old woman has fasting triglycerides of 100 mg/dL and HDL of 80 mg/dL.

AIP reflects the balance between atherogenic triglyceride-rich lipoproteins and protective HDL. Higher values correlate with smaller, denser LDL particles and increased cardiovascular risk.
The ratio TG/HDL is unit-independent (it is a ratio), so AIP can be computed with mg/dL or mmol/L values; only the logarithmic transformation matters.
